Climate Change and Carbon Market Researcher

Responsible to:             Programme Manager and Director, KORA Climate Co., Ltd.

Contract:                         Short-term project based with the possibility of following employment as KORA staff

Salary:                             Depending on experience

Work hours/days:         To be discussed with the applicant (different arrangements possible)

Place of work:                Home-base and/or KORA Climate Co., Ltd office based in Chiang Mai

1. Position

The Climate Change and Carbon Market Researcher will provide support to KORA Climate’s projects, products and services and reports directly to the Programme Manager and the Directors of KORA Climate Co., Ltd. A dynamic person with strong interest and experience in climate change and environmental measures; proficient at English communications; and proactive in taking up multiple challenging tasks. Our activities are related to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, regional and national climate strategies and policies with a focus on international and voluntary carbon markets in the Asia and the Pacific region. KORA Climate is a regular partner of consortiums in international research and technical support projects in the Asian region and is looking for experiences researchers to add to our team on a project base. Such initial short-term arrangements can be followed by a fix-term employment as a regular KORA Climate staff member in the future. 

2. Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Programme Manager, the Research and Project Assistantwill perform the following duties:

  • Assist the company management in climate and environment related research, analysis, consultancy services and project design and implementation
  • Support engagement with companies, development partners and other local and international organization to build new partnerships and opportunities for cooperation
  • Support the preparation of material for events, workshops (WS), seminars, etc., including web page and WS documentation
  • Support project documentation and production of presentations
  • Conduct independent research and assessment; draft policy briefs, analytical papers, and synthesis reports; and make substantive contributions to KORA Climate publications and outreach material
  • Online research (related to work areas climate and environment) and gather intelligence on thematic topics,nature-based solutions, agriculture/agrifood, energy transition, carbon markets
  • Assist in proposal writing, i.e. drafting and improving funding proposals
  • Assist in organizing workshops, events, draft concept notes and other documentation, identify speakers, reaching out to partners and potential speakers

3. Qualifications

  • University degree in environmental science or climate change, development finance, economics, international development, or other related disciplines
  • Experience in reading and writing technical documents and conducting independent research
  • Knowledge of at least one of the following areas: climate change, NDCs, Nature-based Solutions, carbon market mechanisms, climate finance, agriculture/agrifood, forest, or related areas
  • English and Thai language skills (writing, reading, and speaking) is required
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Thai National
